Most of the stories are written and illustrated by the very same creative teams who were working on the monthly books for those very same characters. Plus it kicks off with a great X-Men story that would be right at home in Giant X-Men #1 with the introduction of the new X-Men, Scott Lobdell does a great job channeling Len Wein and the Dave Cockrum art is straight out of 1975.
