Marvel: More Rumors Point To Secret Invasion Disney+ Show – Will This Work?

Last month we heard a rumor begun by Bleeding Cool. The rumor was that one of the two mysterious Marvel-based Disney+ shows not announced yet, would be Secret Invasion. Now we have some more fuel to throw on that rumor fire. Daniel Richtman, who has a pretty solid hit rate recently, has also shared this rumor with subscribers to his Patreon service.

Richtman says that the Secret Invasion show could lead directly into what eventually becomes Captain Marvel 2. Captain Marvel 2 is coming, but we do not have a solid release date, or any writers/directors attached (that we know of). Most of those in the movie news business, (myself included) are predicting that Captain Marvel 2 for some time in 2022.

If Marvel is planning to lead into this with a Secret Invasion show, then it would likely be around early 2022 before that was due for release. The timing would probably place this after all the current shows we are aware of. Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki are all filming now. We also have She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Ms Marvel, and Hawkeye still to come, though Hawkeye looks to be delayed. Therefore, right in the slot we’d expect to see these two mysterious unannounced Marvel shows.

If Secret Invasion is happening, then it is probably still too early for us to hear anything official about it as yet. The problem may be, that I am not hearing much hype for this show if it does happen from fans. Most of the fans I speak to, including staff here at LRM, seem to think Secret Invasion might not work in the current timeline of the MCU. I appreciate that what we know as the comic book version of this story would seem, ‘out of place’, in the current MCU. However, Marvel rarely films the comics, and usually, there is some sort of unique twist on the source material. Marvel could make Secret Invasion work as long as they don’t try to retcon heroes as having been Skrulls.

I simply don’t see Skrull versions of our heroes working without ‘lessening’ what has come before. However, a conspiracy type show, with the ‘good’ Skrulls working against bad guys, could work for me. In terms of who would star in this? I think this would be a great show to star Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and Talos all working together. We know Nick Fury ends up working with the ‘good’ Skrulls anyway. Last we saw Fury was on some Skrull spaceship at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Of course, Far From Home featured Talos impersonating Fury throughout.

I think this could be a fun show, so I don’t have the same apathy towards this story as folks I know do. Also, remember that even though this is two different sources saying the same thing, things change. Even if the sources are genuine for this rumor, that doesn’t mean Secret Invasion will definitely happen. Perhaps we will hear some more official word on this as the year progresses. By then we will have actual reactions to the first two shows as both Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and WandaVision are due to hit this year.
