Marvel Studios Hasn’t Started Developing Fox-Owned Character Projects Yet

The very second it was announced last year that Disney was looking to acquire the majority of 20th Century Fox, geeks like us couldn’t help but look directly at the obvious key acquisitions: all the Marvel character Marvel Entertainment had sold off years before they even dreamed of making their own movies.

The result is whole batches of characters that have yet to enter the MCU: The X-Men, Deadpool, the Fantastic Four, and all their associated characters were all stuck under the Fox banner. But with Disney becoming the owner, they’d soon be heading home and could, therefore, be incorporated into the MCU. But has this process begun yet? As we hear bits and pieces of news, it’s easy for us to assume they’re already bringing all that into consideration, but until things are a sure thing, it’s usually best not to count those eggs before they hatch, as it were.

So what’s the current status of all this? When asked on the Playback Podcast, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed they haven’t started work with any of those properties yet:

“No, not yet. But we’ve been told it’s looking very good and could happen in the first six months of next year.”

So don’t expect them to start incorporating any of those guys until the first half of next year or so. But, as usual, expect us to keep our eyes to the future. After all, that’s where all the coolest stuff is, right? The idea of the X-Men joining the MCU is amazing, and yet, as Feige notes, no matter how many characters they’re able to throw on the screen, they’re always only just scratching the surface of the mythos:

“We did a big event at the El Capitan four years ago where we announced 10 movies, maybe, and I did a little Q&A with the press afterwards. The first five questions were, ‘What about this character? What about this other character? Well, what about this movie?” And I thought, we just announced 10 new movies, isn’t that enough? And what’s amazing is that no, it’s not enough. Which goes to show how many great characters there are in these comics.”

Are you excited to see these other characters join the MCU, or did you like the fact that they didn’t need to rely on the tried-and-true popular ones from the comics? Do you think something is lost when they have access to these bigger properties? Let us know your thoughts down below!
