The Kid Who Would Be King Trailer Hits!

I ain’t the biggest fan of kid movies — at least the live-action ones. I’m even less of a fan of films based on the King Arthur mythos, so the upcoming Kid Who Would Be King film would seem to tick all the wrong boxes for me. But based on that first trailer, I have to say I’m quite looking forward to seeing what it has to offer. It looks cute, inventive, and just plain fun.

The film comes from Joe Cornish, known for his writing work on movies like Ant-Man and The Adventures of Tintin, and it certainly retains the fun spirit from those movies — albeit for a younger audience. If I were a 10-year-old now, I already know this would be something I’m looking forward to immensely. From the trailers alone, it already looks much better than other fare like The House with a Clock in its Walls.

Below is the official synopsis for The Kid Who Would Be King:

“Old school magic meets the modern world in the epic adventure THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING. Alex (Ashbourne Serkis) thinks he’s just another nobody, until he stumbles upon the mythical Sword in the Stone, Excalibur. Now, he must unite his friends and enemies into a band of knights and, together with the legendary wizard Merlin (Stewart), take on the wicked enchantress Morgana (Ferguson). With the future at stake, Alex must become the great leader he never dreamed he could be.”

The Kid Who Would Be King hits theaters on January 25, 2019.
