Marvel Taps Jade Bartlett To Write Doctor Strange In the Multiverse Of Madness

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Teaser Trailer Official Released

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness is coming to theaters on May 7th, 2021. The movie will star Benedict Cumberbatch (obviously), Benedict Wong will return and we know that Elizabeth Olson will appear as Scarlet Witch in the sequel. Scott Derrickson will once again direct, though whether he will have any writing credits is unknown at this time, what we have learned is who Marvel is tapping up to pen the screenplay for the movie.

Collider has revealed that Marvel are after Jade Bartlett to take on writing duties for the Doctor Strange sequel. Bartlett’s first script Miller’s Girl was voted on the 2016 Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays before being optioned by Good Universe with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey set to produce. Next Bartlett has been hired to adapt Chloé Esposito‘s debut novel Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know, described as a sexy thriller with a darkly comic voice. It features a woman who goes to great lengths to steal her twin’s perfect life. Bartlett also wrote the most recent draft of the upcoming horror movie The Turning, starring Mackenzie Davis. Collider reached out to Marvel for confirmation on this, but the studio declined to comment.

Doctor Strange was scripted by Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill and Jon Spaihts. One would imagine that the overall plot and tone of the movie has already been established, since actors have been cast and the release date has been scheduled. Perhaps Derrickson already has a first draft and they are looking at Bartlett to sharpen it all up before filming begins? We really don’t know on that front, but logic dictates they are not starting form a blank canvas on this one at this stage. We’d also have to guess that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness would be set to film early 2020, given it is the first film out of the Marvel gates in 2021.

Next year will see Black Widow and Eternals released from the MCU, but Strange 2 will be next up and we know Black Widow is in post-production while Eternals is currently in principal photography. Expect more Doctor Strange 2 news to start appearing over the next few months as production ramps up.

Have you read any of Bartlett’s work yet, what do you think about her ability to craft a good script for Doctor Strange 2? Leave any thoughts you have in the madness of the comments section below.
