Marvel’s Avengers Is Plagued By Bugs Despite Huge Launch

This comes as absolutely no surprise to me as a gamer but Marvel’s Avengers is plagued by bugs. This comes as no surprise to me as I have never seen a GAAS game like Marvel’s Avengers release without bugs. Fans will say the game hasn’t been tested thoroughly, however, I don’t think it’s possible to full test one of these games until there are millions of players all doing things no one expected. That being said, there’s bugs, and then there’s game breaking bugs.

I picked up the game on September 1st and though I’ve not even finished the campaign yet I have barely noticed any bugs. One or two small things visually, sure, but that’s no big issue. However, the experience some players have had has been far less positive. Checking subreddits associated with the game I have been reading about some really bad game breaking bugs. Many players have reported being frozen in a mission transition. This bug can force the player to restart the whole game or have to wait for a patch.

There are also many reports of pre-order skins and in game earned skins simply disappearing as though they had never been found, along with other lost loot items. Some users are even reporting that the game won’t boot up properly on both PS4 and Xbox One. Perhaps the worst issues though are reserved for the PC release. PC users that have rigs capable of high level settings are reporting the game just can’t handle them, and it’s causing crashes. Players are reporting the only way they can play the game is by going to lowest possible settings, which lets’ face it, is not why you spend money on a gaming rig.

You can find a list of some of the acknowledged bugs here in this official Twitter post. There are quite a few as you can see. Some of the issues I have heard about have not quite been confirmed by Crystal Dynamics yet, so this is not everything.

That’s the bad news, the good news? Marvel’s Avengers has sold really well so far. Topping the games charts in the U.K. for physical sales. Plus, to be honest, I am thoroughly enjoying the campaign so far. Most GAAS games have a very sketchy campaign because the real games is the end game state. However, Marvel’s Avengers has a really well told story so far for me.

I’m sure Crystal Dynamics will be working on patches to all these issues. However, remember what I said up top, this is not unexpected. Marvel’s Avengers is plagued by bugs, but will that influence your decision whether to buy the game or not? Or, are you prepared to accept the small risks and wait for patches to fix things? Share your thoughts below as always.
