Masters Of The Universe Finds Its He-Man

“I have the power!!”  Anyone out there a He-Man fan?  As a kid, I caught the tail end of the He-Man fad, but many my grandma would buy me so many characters.  I had the sweet castles as well, so you could say I was a fan.  Looking back, the cartoons were a bit…rough…and would use the same shots numerous times, but entertaining nonetheless.

In 1987 Masters of the Universe came out with Dolph Lundgren donning the sword as He-Man, Frank Langella as Skeletor, and a young Courtney Cox as the teenage earthling, Julie.  From what I have read, it cost a good deal of money.  So much that they even ran out and had to find other funding.  Oh, and they actually set the high school on fire on accident.  Oops!

The franchise was format for a while, but is heading for a revival with an upcoming film! According to the actor Noah Centino (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) on The Tonight Show, he will be playing the hero!

“Yes, yeah. I have an affinity for being in my underwear, I don’t know what it is… Yeah, I’m very excited. It’s quite an opportunity.”

Now, this was a double-nod to the fact that he was just in a Calvin Klein ad as well as He-Man’s notorious loincloth. This is a good sign seeing as the film has been held in limbo for what seems like forever, but does this suggest that it is finally moving forward?

There currently is no release date for the reboot of Masters of the Universe as Sony moved it from its December 2019 slot, but Matt Holloway and Art Marcum have written the most recent draft of the screenplay, with Aaron and Adam Nee currently set to direct.
