It appears Matt Damon has turned down the chance to again appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Perhaps playing an actor playing Loki was too much.
Apparently, there has been a rumor that I missed that Matt Damon was being eyed to play the villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. But, alas, it sounds like Damon already passed on the role.
The news comes from The Tracking Board editor-in-chief Jeff Sneider, who said on today’s episode of Meet the Movie Press:
“The rumor that was sort of plaguing Hollywood for the last couple weeks was that Matt Damon was going to be the villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. I’m told he passed…”
Bummer. I don’t know what villain Damon was being considered for, but he would make a killer Norman Osborn… should Sony go that direction again, which I personally would very much like to see. Every iteration of Spider-Man needs the Green Goblin, just like every reboot of Batman has eventually featured Joker.

Not much is known about Spider-Man: Homecoming 2, save that Jon Watts is back to direct, and Tom Holland and most his teenage friends will return for the sequel.
We do know that Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 swings into theaters on July 5, 2019, immediately after the yet-to-be-titled Avengers 4.
What villain do you think would have been a good fit for Matt Damon? Are you disappointed, or relieved that he isn’t involved in the film? Let us know in the comment section below!
