Matt Reeves Produced Arkham Series Now Set In DCU Says James Gunn

This is interesting, according to James Gunn, the Matt Reeves produced Arkham TV series is now set in the DCU.

This is interesting, according to James Gunn, the Matt Reeves produced Arkham TV series is now set in the DCU. As we all know, Matt Reeves The Batman is in its own universe and not a part of the new DCU. Equally the upcoming The Penguin series and The Batman 2 will be set in that Elseworlds universe. Another project long in development has been an Arkham series which at one point started as Gotham PD.

Ultimately we all assumed the Arkham series was also set in the ReevesVerse. However co-head of DC James Gunn recently revealed on social media that the Arkham series is actualy set in the DCU and that Reeves will also work in that universe as well as developing his sequel to The Batman. Gunn recently revealed he’s yet to see Reeves script for the sequel yet, but he has seen the pitch.

Gunn was asked if Reeves was producing any other projects within The Batman Universe outside of Penguin, The Batman 2 and Arkham? Here is Gunn’s reply, you can find the full conversation on Threads.

“Right now Matt is producing Arkham as a DCU series, so there’s just the two for now.”

Gunn was then asked to clarify if the meant that the Arkham series was set in the DCU.

“Yes. We love Matt as a director and producer so he’ll be producing stories both within his The Batman universe and within the DCU.”

Gunn then went on to confirm that this was always the case and since inception the Arkham series has been set in the DCU. This must have been the major factor in the change from Gotham PD I assume?

Gunn was asked if this was changed and he said,

“It wasn’t changed.”

“It was one of the first pitches we bought when Peter [Safran] and I came onboard. I don’t know the permutations it went through before that time.”

Bit of a surprise, but a welcome one. Not because we seem to be getting a little less of The Batman Universe. Instead because I believe Reeves is going to be an asset to the DCU also. I guess for now I have one question and that’s when Arkham is coming? Will this be before The Brave and the Bold or afterwards? Either option is viable, the series could set the stage for the movie or vice versa. However, my guesstimate is that The Brave and the Bold will come first.

It may also depend just how involved Reeves wants to be on set, because he also has his The Batman sequel to film.
