Meera Syal Confirmed As Verin In The Wheel of Time Season 2 Plus More Casting News

Meera Syal confirmed to be playing Verin in The Wheel of Time Season 2. Plus a few other pieces of casting news from Season 2 to go over.

This was speculated upon by fans for a long time, but Meera Syal is now confirmed to be playing Verin in The Wheel of Time Season 2. There are also a few other pieces of casting news from Season 2 to go over. However first, Verin.

I don’t want to hype up the character of Verin too much going into Season 2, as you may not see a ton of her in this next season. Of course that depends how much will change from the books? In the case of Season 2 though, which is trying to merge books 2 and 3 together, that’s likely to be substantial.

When the major roles for Season 2 were first announced, the actress playing Verin was not revealed. However fans, including me, have been speculating it was Syal for some time. It just kinda fit, and then we had showrunner Rafe Judkins go over various cast members and their names, and he deliberately stopped short of revealing Syal’s character name, which was another hint. Well, now it seems like it’s official.

Initially Nerdist ran the below exclusive on their site.

Today, Nerdist can exclusively reveal Meera Syal (The Sandman, Doctor Strange) is Verin Mathwin, Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah and an absolute badass. Fans have speculated about this casting, and we could not be more excited to see Syal as Verin.

That article was then retweeted on social media (see below) by the official The Wheel of Time account, which confirms the news.

Finally we have an image of Syal in the show, from BBC’s BAFTA Awards show.

I’m very pleased with this casting, I think it will work well. Verin is a character that, shall we say, grows in importance to the plot. However only as the series gets farther along. With this TV adaptation though, I’m betting Verin will also get a bit extra to do. Disappearing for like a whole book, as I think Verin did at one point, isn’t ideal on TV.

To tell you anything about how Verin gets caught up in all this would start to spoil. Therefore, I won’t be doing that. Be careful though folks! If you go searching for Verin in Wheel of Time you’ll find massive spoilers. That could be said for almost any major character in the series though.

The main thing you need to know is, Verin is an Aes Sedai from the Brown Ajah. The Brown’s are the academic’s and book worms, always fascinated to study things in more detail, and as happy in a Library as anywhere else.

As for that other casting news. It seems like a few more minor roles casting has come out. Here is what WoT Series had to report.

Today, we have four more cast that we’ve identified as being part of Prime Video’s adaptation of Robert Jordan’s beloved book series: Nila Aalia, Joelle, Nyokabi Gethaiga, and Diêm Camille.

The site says three of these four are in definitely in Season 2 and Season 3, though one they are unsure if it is Season 3 only. For context, Season 3 is filming right now and Season 2 wrapped some time ago.

Aalia, Joelle, and Gethaiga will be appearing in both seasons 2 and 3. Camille will appear in season 3, and it is unknown if she will also be appearing in season 2. All roles for these actors are currently unknown.

What do you think as Meera Syal is now confirmed to be playing Verin in The Wheel of Time Season 2? Any thoughts on the other casting news? As always share them below in the usual spot.
