Michael C. Hall On Figuring Out Dexter For The Revival

Michael C. Hall will return as one of television’s strangest protagonists, Dexter Morgan. The Showtime revival of Dexter was announced a few months ago much to the delight of fans. Hall says he enjoyed the process of figuring out his iconic character in this new environment. You can check out what he had to say during an interview with NME below.

“I’m looking forward to getting back into Dexter’s shoes. I don’t really know what to expect, as I’ve never returned to a job after so much time. Having Dexter in a completely different context, we’ll see how that feels. It’s been interesting to figure out how to do that and I thought it was time to find out what the hell happened to him.”

Hall continued, explaining what brought him back and why it’s the right time.

“I just needed the persuasion of time passing, so I could [get] some distance away from that part and have more possibilities for him. Really, it was about being presented with a story I felt was worth telling. There had been some other proposals and possibilities for Dexter, other roads we started down, but this was the first one that was worth continuing on.”

I don’t know about you folks, but I’m already getting a Twin Peaksy-type vibe from this. I’m not sure why I feel that way either. I was (well, I guess I still am) a huge fan of the series, and like most fans am excited to have Dexter return. The finale was, disappointing, and it’s nice to know that while the new episodes of the show won’t erase Lumberjack Dexter, but will hopefully relegate it to just an awkward time in Dexter’s life.

At the moment, at least to my knowledge, there are no plans to continue the series after the upcoming season. However, when asked if the revival could lead to more Dexter, or if Season 9 is ‘definitely’ going to wrap up the series once and for all, Hall gave hope to fans who would like to see the series continue.

“I’m reluctant to say ‘definitely’, you know? What’s plain now is that there’s 10 new episodes.”
