Son of Sopranos star James, Michael Gandolfini has been cast in Daredevil: Born Again. That’s the news coming from Deadline about the upcoming Marvel Disney+ series. Michael is probably most recognized for playing a younger version of his father’s character Tony Soprano in the prequel movie, The Many Saints of Newark.
So it looks like Gandolfini will be following in his father’s footsteps as an actor going forward. Here is what the trade had to say, then we have some rumors on this casting to share.
Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark) is set for a major role opposite Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel’s upcoming revival series on Disney+, sources tell Deadline.
Details about Gandolfini’s character are being kept under wraps; it’s possible he plays an ambitious guy from Staten Island referred to as Liam. Reps for Marvel and Gandolfini had no comment.
Now the rumor bells have been sounding over the last couple of day. For a start this piece of casting was rumored a few days before the trades published by Daniel RPK. However, there is a rumor that Gandolfini will actually play the son of Wilson Fisk in the show. Going back to the comics, Fisk did have a son from what I can remember and it was one of the few things he actually cared about. Though in the Netflix series which may or may not be canon to Born Again, Fisk was childless and only newly married. For now though, the only insider claiming this I can find is Grace Randolph, who has a sketchy Marvel record compared to DC. Ergo, I’d wait and see before reacting to that rumor.
Sadly I have yet to watch Many Saints of Newark, despite being a fan of The Sopranos. However, perhaps a slight concern was that I’ve heard Gandolfini the younger isn’t all that great in the role. That’s just what I hear on the grapevine though. Therefore, until I see it for myself I won’t make any judgments.
So far we know both Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise their roles as Murdock and Fisk to lead this show. However we also know that Deborah Anne Woll has not been asked about a possible return as Karen Page. At least not the last time the actress was asked about the upcoming show. I do think if everyone else is coming back, so should Woll as Karen. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Murdock, Page and Foggy. The last we left them they had formed the Murdock, Page and Nelson law firm.
