Microsoft Acquires Activision Blizzard In Massive $69 Billion Deal – Breaking

Xbox boss Phil Spencer says there will be no Activision games appearing on Game Pass until 2024. Check it out.

Microsoft acquires Activision Blizzard in a massive $69 Billion deal! The news only broke today and you can see the statement posted to social media by Microsoft below. This means along with Microsoft’s recent purchase of Bethesda, that the Xbox brand now has the entire back catalogue of Activision Blizzard under it’s wing. This also is a huge boost for Xbox Game Pass. Activision’s game will likely all become a part of Microsoft’s successful games subscription service. It is thought that Sony are on the verge of introducing their own Game Pass equivalent. However with the power that Xbox now wields, along with the PC access, it’s hard to see how Sony can truly compete.

Fan of Activision Blizzard games that don’t have an Xbox? I’m guessing fans will no doubt be worried about the future of franchises they have become attached to. We cannot say for certain this is the case though. The likelihood is, that Activision Blizzard new titles will be Xbox/PC exclusive like we are seeing now with Bethesda games. However gamers who own both a PS and a PC will still be able to purchase the games on PC, and/or subscribe to Game Pass.

As said on the headline in the link from the social media post above:

Creators of Call of Duty, Warcraft, Candy Crush, Tony Hawk, Diablo, Overwatch, Spyro, Hearthstone, Guitar Hero, Crash Bandicoot, StarCraft and more join Team Xbox

That’s a lot of popular and in some cases fantastic games.

Here is the most interesting parts from the statement from Xbox boss Phil Spencer.

Until this transaction closes, Activision Blizzard and Microsoft Gaming will continue to operate independently. Once the deal is complete, the Activision Blizzard business will report to me as CEO, Microsoft Gaming.

Upon close, we will offer as many Activision Blizzard games as we can within Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, both new titles and games from Activision Blizzard’s incredible catalog. We also announced today that Game Pass now has more than 25 million subscribers. As always, we look forward to continuing to add more value and more great games to Game Pass.

The fantastic franchises across Activision Blizzard will also accelerate our plans for Cloud Gaming, allowing more people in more places around the world to participate in the Xbox community using phones, tablets, laptops and other devices you already own. Activision Blizzard games are enjoyed on a variety of platforms and we plan to continue to support those communities moving forward.

Let’s be under no illusions this is a massive deal and massively big news. There were some rumors for a while, but never anything solid until this statement.
