Midway portrays the heroic efforts of the Navy during World War II. Every character in the film was integral in turning the tide for the battle of the Pacific.
One such character, Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet Chester W. Nimitz, was a strategic figure in the Battle of Midway. Ten days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Nimitz was promoted by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to rebuild and oversee the Pacific Fleet. He faced superior odds with Japanese forces in crucial defensive actions at the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway. Six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Battle of Midway inflicted a devastating blow to the Japanese fleet that proved irreparable.
In an exclusive clip premiered by LRM Online, it features interviews director Roland Emmerich, producer Harald Kloser and fellow co-star Ed Skrein.
“He has a certain sly humor. He can make people laugh with very little,” said Emmerich in the special feature. “He altered some of his big lines. And they’re big laughs.”
Skrein remarked about the respect given to Harrison on set.
“We have such an eclectic cast. Everyone has their own chemical and energy. Where do I start? First of all, Woody Harrison, on-screen and off, he is the man with the energy, career, and personality to admire and to look up to,” explained Skrein. “I’ve idolized him since White Man Can’t Jump.”
Midway stars Skrein, Patrick Wilson, Harrison, Luke Evans, Mandy Moore, Luke Kleintank, Dennis Quaid, Aaron Eckhart, and Keean Johnson. Emmerich directed the film from a screenplay by Wes Tooke.
