Mike Cuenca understands that life imitates art.
In I’ll Be Around, the lovable indie movie follows a large group of 30-somethings at a music concert. The millennials dive into a variety of conversational topics of their respective lives. And, these characters are all eclectic and colorful in their own way.
The film as appearances from Jonah Ray (Mystery Science Theater 3000), J. Mascis (DinosaurJr.), Frank Agnew (The Adolescents), Casey Royer (D.I.), and Pleasant Gehman (punk rock icon). The cast also includes Sarah Lawrence, Drew Clapp, Sofia Grace, Joey Halter, and Miles Dougal.
LRM Online spoke with director Mike Cuenca via Zoom. The self-taught filmmaker used his experiences as a former musician to develop this creative micro-budget darling. His style resonates with his other indie works, including By the Wayside and numerous short films.
I’ll Be Around wrapped up its run at the virtual online Los Angeles theatrical release hosted by the American Cinematheque/Egyptian Theater. It will be expanded into more film festivals in the future.
