Looks like the upcoming Top Gun sequel may be taking a page out of Creed‘s playbook. According to a new report from Deadline, Whiplash star Miles Teller will be joining the Top Gun: Maverick. His role is none other than the son of Goose, who was played by Anthony Edwards in the 1986 original film.
Of course, as Top Gun fans all know, Goose met his untimely end in the film, leaving behind a grieving Maverick, played by Tom Cruise. Teller’s character will reportedly be a protegé of Cruise, though the specifics behind their relationship are still unclear.
Top Gun: Maverick is currently in production, with Tom Cruise returning to star. Directing the film is Joseph Kosinski, who previously worked with Cruise on the sci-fi film Oblivion. Kosinski also worked with Teller on the firefighter film Only the Brave, where Teller starred alongside Josh Brolin, so it makes sense that Teller would be joining his latest production. Clearly, he has a good working relationship with Kosinski, which is a good thing and likely bodes well for the movie.
What do you think about Teller joining Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick? Do you think he fits the bill as a son of Goose, and do you see this as a natural progression of the story? Let us know all your thoughts down below!
