You may not know the name, but if you’re at least tangentially aware of the medium of anime, there’s a good chance you’ve heard the name Mamoru Hosoda. In addition to tackling such instant classics as Summer Wars and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, he’s also had a hand in The Digimon Movie and the One Piece animated film, Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island.
His latest feature, Mirai, is set to hit select theaters this coming November, and as such, we are finally getting an English teaser for the film. Like all of his films so far, this one looks to be another entry in the canon that celebrates family above all else. Be sure to check the teaser above.

Below is the official U.S. teaser for Mirai:
“From acclaimed director Mamoru Hosoda (Summer Wars, Wolf Children) and Japan’s Studio Chizu comes MIRAI, a daringly original story of love passed down through generations. When four-year-old Kun meets his new baby sister, his world is turned upside down. Named Mirai (meaning “future”), the baby quickly wins the hearts of Kun’s entire family. As his mother returns to work, and his father struggles to run the household, Kun becomes increasingly jealous of baby Mirai… until one day he storms off into the garden, where he encounters strange guests from the past and future – including his sister Mirai, as a teenager. Together, Kun and teenage Mirai go on a journey through time and space, uncovering their family’s incredible story. But why did Mirai come from the future?”
Admittedly, I haven’t liked Hosoda’s last two films as much as his other works, but the concept of this one is very enticing, with a lot of potential for waterworks, which is something he does very well.
