Mission: Impossible 7 & 8 Replaces Nicholas Hoult As Lead Villain

Yesterday news broke that X-Men: First Class star Nicholas Hoult had been replaced as the lead villain in Mission: Impossible 7 & 8. Hoult has been replaced by Titans star Esai Morales for the M:I movies that are shooting back to back.

According to Variety, the reason for this change is scheduling conflicts brought about by the Coronavirus crisis. According to the trade’s sources, the delays in filming the Mission: Impossible sequels has resulted in a conflict with Hoult’s TV show The Great, which is due to film Season 2 within the same window.

Now, Morales has been brought on board to fill in as the villain of both Mission: Impossible 7 & 8. Of course, at this point we know almost nothing about the nature of Morales new role. It seems however at first glance to be quite a dramatic change. I don’t see Morales and Hoult as alike in any way. Morales is far older than Hoult for a start, and they look nothing alike, though I suppose that doesn’t matter all that much.

Mission: Impossible 7 & 8

I do really like Morales as an actor though, I have not seen Season 2 of Titans yet, but I do remember Morales from Season 1 of Netflix’s Ozark, one of my favourote shows. In Ozark, Morales played a Mexican drug cartel member who was a sort of handler for the main characters. I hope this is a big break for Morales into the movie side, because he has talent for sure.

I’m not the biggest fan of the Mission: Impossible movies overall, but I have loved all the entries directed by Chsritopher McQuarrie so far. So I can’t wait to see how this two-part, but not two-part Mission: Impossible movie pans out. McQuarrie likened these movies to Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Specifically that they are not one movie split in two, but connected to one another narratively all the same.

What do you think of this news that Mission: Impossible 7 & 8 has replaced Nicholas Hoult with Esai Morales? Leave your thoughts below as always.
