Mortal Kombat Film Will Be Rated R And WILL FEATURE FATALITIES

When you think of Mortal Kombat, chances are good that you don’t necessarily think of “family-friendly entertainment.” Yes, most of us were exposed to it as impressionable kids, but one main reason we took to it was because of one thing: the gore. Oh, yeah. Back in a day where a lot of games were pretty much conceived for kids, Mortal Kombat dared to be gory and dared to be edgy.

This is an aspect the franchise has retained, but that doesn’t change the fact that the two theatrical releases were actually given PG-13 ratings. Somehow, they managed to make these (admittedly lackluster) films without some of the trademark violence it was known for. The webseries was able to deliver on the violence, but what about the upcoming film?

Here’s what screenwriter Greg Russo had to say in a tweet.

“Since it’s already been stated by other members of the team, I’m gonna put this one to bed. MK WILL be R-Rated and for the first time EVER, FATALITIES will FINALLY be on the big screen (and no I’m not gonna say which ones) You’ll just have to wait for the movie & see!!! ;)”

All I can say is it’s about damn time. I’ll admit, I’m not the biggest MK fan, but if I go into a Mortal Kombat movie, I expect to see these fatalities actually interpreted in live-action form. I expect these to be the predictable mix of cool and unsettling.

What do you think of the fatalities finally making it to the big screen? Let us know your thoughts down below!
