It seems that another support beam is falling under the service that is MoviePass. In recent months, the subscription platform that allows customers to see unlimited movies for $9.95 a month, has faced some real scrutiny. As time has gone on, the prospect of it ever actually turning a profit has led some investors to lose faith in it, and very soon after, it was revealed that the service ran out of money for at least one night. Months before that, it was having trouble working with certain AMC theaters, but that problem soon passed. Now, it sounds like there may be yet another chain causing some problems.
Now, one insider has told LRM that at several unspecified Cinemark locations are having a lot of trouble with the service. As of this writing, for at least one location, only three of their dozen or so titles are even showing up for the app, but it’s denying people for those movies as well. The insider wasn’t able to confirm if this was just an issue with certain locations or a nationwide issue.
While we don’t know if this problem is nationwide, it doesn’t appear to be an isolated issue. If you go to MoviePass’ Twitter account, they posted a public apology on the 28th of July (just a couple days ago), but they have been following up with users complaints as recently as a few hours ago.
Here’s what their public apology on the 28th at 10pm said:
“We are very sorry to users having issues checking-in this evening. Some users have reported issues with card-based check-ins and we are working towards a fix on this technical issue. In the meantime, all e-ticketing remains fully functional.”
