Mrs. Doubtfire Is Headed To Broadway

Before the 1993 film, Mrs. Doubtfire was only known in the literary word as the alias of a struggling actor trying to see the children he lost custody of in Anne Fine’s novel Alias Madame Doubtfire. While the book was a best-selling novel, the character would forever be remembered for Robin Williams’ Golden Globe-winning performance in the heartfelt comedy Mrs. Doubtfire. The film became an instant comedy classic.

Now, Fine’s story will undergo another iteration as it makes its way into becoming a Broadway-bound musical. The Tony-nominated creators of Something Rotten!, John O’Farrell, Karey Kirkpatrick and Wayne Kirkpatrick, will be penning the script and music for the production, while the four-time Tony winning director of the Hello, Dolly! revival Jerry Zaks is set to direct this production. The production will feature Alan Menken, David Zippel and Harvey Fierstein, who appeared alongside Williams in the 1993 film.

Fox Stage Productions producers Kevin McCollum and Bob Cohen released a joint statement on the project:

“Mrs. Doubtfire is such a beloved story, both laugh-out-loud hilarious and extremely moving. Getting this team together and crafting Mrs. Doubtfire for the stage has been pure joy. We can’t wait to get into production.”
