Netflix Announces Fifth And Final Part For International Sensation Money Heist

One of my favorite series on Netflix is coming to an end. Netflix’s international sensation Money Heist or Casa De Papel will be returning to the streaming service for one last season. The Spanish heist crime drama follows a group of thieves led by a man who goes by the Professor. They execute a plan to attempt to rob the Royal Mint of Spain. It was supposed to be a limited series for the Spanish network Antena 3 in 2017. In late 2017 Netflix acquired the global streaming rights late that year and re-cut the series for a worldwide release. By 2018 it had become the most non-English language series on Netflix.

Earlier this year we were treated to the fourth part of the series which left us with a massive cliff-hanger. Due to the global situation, it was unclear when they would consider doing another part of the series. Today Netflix has announced that production on Part 5 will begin on August 3rd. It will be filmed in Spain, Denmark, and Portugal. The final part of the series will consist of ten episodes.

They also announced that Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Patrick Criado are confirmed as new cast members. They will be joining, Úrsula Coberó (Tokyo), Álvaro Morte (The Professor) , Itziar Ituño (Lisbon), Pedro Alonso (Berlin), Miguel Herrán (Rio), Jaime Lorente (Denver), Esther Acebo (Stockholm), Enrique Arce (Arturo), Darko Peric (Helsinki), Hovik Keuchkerian (Bogotá), Luka Peros (Marseille), Belén Cuesta (Manila), Fernando Cayo (Coronel Tamayo), Rodrigo de la Serna (Palermo), Najwa Nimri (Inspector Sierra), y José Manuel Poga (Gandía), and many more.

Creator and Executive Producer Alex Pina commented about the “extreme and savage levels” of this final season of Money Heist:

“We’ve spent almost a year thinking about how to break up the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters. The result is the fifth part of La Casa de Papel. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season”.

Along with Pina on the production team is Jesús Colmenar who will act as Executive Producer. Cristina López Ferraz will return as Director of Production and Executive Producer. Javier Gómez Santander (head writer), Migue Amodeo (Director of Photography), and Esther Martínez-Lobato are also co-producing. Part 5 of the series will be directed by Jesús Colmenar, Koldo Serra, and Álex Rodrigo.

Whenever anyone needs a recommendation for a series on Netflix, Money Heist is always a must-watch in my opinion. The characters are very well developed and Pina does an amazing job of weaving all the storylines into the main plot of the heist. I have seen the series is both Spanish and English, and if you’re lucky enough to understand Spanish I recommend watching it that way.
