Netflix Doubles Down On Fantasy With Epic The Letter For The King Teaser

This past December, Netflix made a huge splash with fantasy and mainstream fans with The Witcher. Based on the Andrzej Sapkowski novels, they followed the moody Geralt of Rivia in his many adventures leading up to his fateful meeting with a princess named Ciri. On the heels of Game of Thrones, it was the latest in many fantasy series on their way. Now, they are continuing this trend for The Letter for the King.

This new series from the streamer is based on the Dutch novel De brief voor de Koning from author Tonke Dragt. The novel was published in 1962 and is considered to be something of a fantasy classic. So much so that it received a move adaptation back in 2008.

Now, Netflix has released a first teaser for the ambitious adaptation. Check it out down below!

The film will also feature fantasy veteran Andy Serkis, this time acting alongside his daughter Ruby.

“It’s been a really interesting dynamic because we’re playing versions of ourselves but we’re not ourselves,” the elder Serkis said in a press release. “Where do we cross over as human beings? Where do we crossover as father and daughter? Obviously these characters are very different, but we’re using a shorthand that we know with each other.”

That’s not all. Fantasy fans may also recognize the main lead of the show, played by Amir Wilson. Wilson recently appeared as Will Parry in HBO and BBC’s adaptation of His Dark Materials, and this time around, he plays a would-be knight named Tiuri, who is tasked with delivering an important letter (you guessed it) to the king.

“It was a lot to take in at first. Reading these scripts, I thought, how am I gonna be able to do this?” Wilson told EW. “I thought it’d be quite hard for me, ’cause I’m quite new, and quite young, and not as experienced as other people. But I had a great group of people around me to help and support me.”
