Netflix Orders Animated Series From David Fincher And Deadpool’s Tim Miller

Netflix has made it clear for months now that they intend to jump into the world of animation headfirst. I mean, given how they’ve jumped into live-action series and feature films, I pretty much expect no less. Additionally, because of their willingness to go all-in on any one thing so quickly, it almost comes as no surprise that we’ll be getting something so different so soon in their plans.

For example, this recent announcement involving a new animated series called Love, Death & Robots. You can name plenty of titans of animation (Netflix is working with many of them), but I doubt you’d come across the pair who is working on this odd little project. As reported by ComingSoon.net, the show comes courtesy of Gone Girl director David Fincher and Deadpool director Tim Miller.

Love, Death & Robots is being pitched as an animated anthology series for the streaming service, which will comprise of 18 animated shorts. However, unlike a lot of the animated content coming to Netflix, these shorts will be aimed at adults, and genres will range from sci-fi to comedy, fantasy, and horror.

Honestly, Fincher is a bit of a surprise get here, given his extensive experience in live-action, but Miller is less of a surprise, since he founded Blur Studios, which worked in animation. It is, at this point, not confirmed if they will be using Blur Studios in this project.

Love, Death & Robots is my dream project,” Miller said in a statement. “It combines my love of animation and amazing stories. Midnight movies, comics, books and magazines of fantastic fiction have inspired me for decades, but they were relegated to the fringe culture of geeks and nerds of which I was a part. I’m so fucking excited that the creative landscape has finally changed enough for adult-themed animation to become part of a larger cultural conversation.”

Given that Miller did work on the opening sequence to Fincher’s Girl With the Dragon Tattoo film, I guess it makes sense that a connection of sorts would be formed between the two.
