Netflix Raising Prices Again

I hope your New Year’s resolutions include bringing in a bit more money, because Netflix is hiking up their prices yet again. Okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration — it’ll, by no means, be breaking the bank, but it’s still an unwelcome increase. According to Deadline, this increase will be by 13 to 18% and will take effect with new subscribers immediately. Current subscribers will be phased into this new price point over the course of the next three months.

So where will this leave things? This means their Basic plan will be raised from $8 to $9, their HD Standard plan from $11 to $13, and their 4K Premium plan from $14 to $16. In case it wasn’t clear, these expenses are monthly. So yeah, slowly but surely, Netflix really is turning into a pretty costly premium service.

“We change pricing from time to time as we continue investing in great entertainment and improving the overall Netflix experience,” Netflix said in a statement to the Associated Press.

Over the past couple of years, Netflix really has been investing a lot of money into their content. From TV shows to big-budget movies, it’s really impossible not to stumble across their original content. In many ways, we really have been getting a great deal, as it has more content than something like HBO Now and is still not quite as expensive. The value of the service finally seems to be settling into an equilibrium for them.

While this hike is understandable, it still does suck. This year will see the likes of Disney and WarnerMedia join the streaming game, and very soon, audiences will have to make difficult choices about which services they really want to indulge in.

Which services do you see yourselves buckling down on in the future? Let us know your thoughts down below!
