Netflix To Spend Over $17 Billion On Content

Surprise, surprise, Netflix is good at spending money. Every year we report on just how much the streamer is spending, and each year, it seems to inflate substantially. Given that it has long since been prepping for the great Streaming Wars, you could hardly blame them, but with competitors now rolling out, it looks like they’re doubling down. Well, maybe not doubling, but they certainly aren’t slowing down.

Last year, the streamer spent a reported $15.3 billion on content, and this year (2020), they are projected to spend $17.3 billion. That being said, I think it’s worth noting that it is not specified whether or not this most recent figure indicates original content or just content in general.

Regardless, they do seem to be spending a lot more than competitors. Disney is expected to spend $1 billion on original programing in 2020, HBO Max around $2 billion, and Peacock also around $2 billion. In short, they’re spending a whole lotta money to help stay ahead of the game.
