Netflix is currently busy at work filming the live-action adaptation of the beloved manga and anime, One Piece. While the a good part of the cast had been announced we now know yet another character that will be featured on the series. At the Shueisha’s Great Pirate Festival, Peter Gadiot made this announcement
Thats right, the British actor Peter Gadiot has joined the cast of One Piece as Shanks. He is the legendary captain of the red-haired pirate crew. Also known as one of the Four Emperors of the New World. You may recognize the name from both Queen of the South and Yellowjackets.
He joins a stacked cast that includes, Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Rorona Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. Additional cast includes Morgan Davies as Koby, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida, Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Jeff Ward as Buggy, McKinley Belcher III as Arlong, and Vincent Regan as Garp.

One Piece is based on the iconic Japanese manga that goes by the same name. It’s anime, is the longest running anime. The story follows Monkey D. Luffy, the leader of the Straw Hat Pirates, who gains the powers to turn his body into rubber after eating a “Devil Fruit.” He ventures around a fantastical world of exotic islands and vast oceans in search of the legendary treasure known as “One Piece” to become the next Pirate King.
Netflix’s One Piece is being co-produced by Netflix and Tomorrow Studios. Matt Owens and Steven Maeda are the writers, showrunners. They also serve as executive producers along with Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios with Eiichiro Oda, the author of the series.
