Apparently the silver lining to director Henry Cavill not immediately taking up the role of the Man of Steel post-Justice League is that we get to see him buffed out in the role of Geralt in Netflix’s the adaptation of The Witcher. I am not too familiar with the source material so I only have the trailers to go by to determine the potential quality of the series. From what I’ve seen from the trailers The Witcher looks interesting. Thankfully several critics have gone to Twitter to express their reaction to the series.
Our own Cam Clark has had a chance to see the first episode — with a reaction to the full five forthcoming. Embargo for a full review lifts on the 20th, but based on the first episode, Cam predicts a big win for Netflix on this one.

The fight choreography is insane. First fight Geralt gets into is beautifully savage. The blend of swordplay and Geralt’s signs is perfection#TheWitcher pic.twitter.com/8JaXGfltIO

Oh I will say this. The fight scenes in The Witcher make Game of Thrones fight scenes look like two drunks fighting outside a bar.

Gimme an “A”, gimme a “dapt”, gimme an “a”, gimme a “tion” whats that spell??
Two episodes in and already know what gripes will be, what is universally liked, but NOBODY will be able to say they went cheap with it.
Looks and SOUNDS amazing. Music and songs stuck in my head.

It sounds like The Witcher might be a very entertaining watch. I thought Game of Thrones fight scenes were well done, but it sounds like The Witcher is upping the ante for chain-mail wearing bad-asses. The reviewers express a lot of excitement and said the most they could without breaking Netflix’s review embargo. Still, there were some reviewers that thought The Witcher might not be a show everyone will love.
The official synopsis from Netflix says The Witcher “is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”
Will the series be the next great show to binge on Netflix? We’ll have to wait until The Witcher premieres on Friday Netflix December 20, 2019 to find out. Do you plan on watching The Witcher?
