New Austin Powers Movie Is ‘Looking Good’

It’s been over 15 years since Mike Myers donned the bald cap and framed glasses to portray the likes of Doctor Evil and Austin Powers, respectively. The film was Austin Powers in Goldmember — an admittedly lackluster piece of comedy that really didn’t live up to that first genius film, Austin Powers. Still, that didn’t keep both characters from having a huge impact on the cultural zeitgeist.

While audiences may not have exactly been clamoring for a fourth film, it is a subject that has come up pretty frequently, though like every movie out there, things like this take time to come to fruition. But how are things looking for Doctor Evil? Access asked this very question on the red carpet of Bohemian Rhapsody, and Mike Myers was surprisingly optimistic.

“You’re going to see Doctor Evil soon, somewhere in the culture.”

However, from the sound of it, that portrayal of Doctor Evil will be separate from the fourth Austin Powers film — but don’t rule that out either.

“They take a long time to write, they always have. Jay [Roach] has been super-crazy, he’s doing a fantastic movie right now that he’s working on. It’s looking good.”

Myers gave no further details, but I’m admittedly pretty intrigued. Austin Powers had a hard time adapting to the world of the 1990s, and given that he’s someone who would likely continue to act the same in perpetuity, I almost feel like a new story could revolve around his unwillingness to acknowledge his own age and mortality. As a side note, I wonder how his style would progress. Would he continue with the 1960s stuff, has he evolved to the late-70s, or is he full-on modern now?

These questions MUST be answered!
