I’m sure Game of Thrones needs no introduction by me any longer, it’s huge. Thrones is also nearing the end, as post-production works continues on Season 8, the final season of the show.

The expectation is palpable for the finale of a show this big and it’s not gone unnoticed by those in charge of delivering on that expectation. As part of EW‘s coverage of Season 8, they spoke with co-executive producer Bryan Cogman and lead actors Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) who talk about the grueling, 10-month shoot as everyone looks to end this in the best way imaginable.

Cogman:

“It’s about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death. It’s an incredibly emotional haunting bittersweet final season and I think it honors very much what [author George R.R. Martin] set out to do — which is flipping this kind of story on its head.”

Harrington:

“It’s relentless; scenes that would have been a one-day shoot five years ago are now a five-day shoot. They want to get it right, they want to shoot everything every single way so they have options.”

Clarke agrees:

“[Camera] checks take longer, costumes are a bit better, hair and makeup a bit sharper — every choice, every conversation, every attitude, has this air of ‘this is it.’ Everything feels more intense.”

Can it honestly live up to the hype any longer? We all (fans) probably have our own ideas on what would be a fitting ending for this show. I certainly didn’t want it to be one of the shows where we talk about how good it would have been if they had ended it well (ahem LOST). I guess we may find out around May next year if my guesses are correct.
