New Batwoman Javicia Leslie Shares A First Look At Her In The Cape And Cowl

Batwoman

Javicia Leslie was cast as the new Batwoman back in July after Ruby Rose exited the role at the end of the first season of the series. She may be wearing the Bat cape and cowl as Batwoman but she will not be playing Kate Kane. Instead, a new character, Ryan Wilder, will be taking over as Gotham’s protector. She is described as likable, messy, goofy, and untamed.

During the DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse event, the Batwoman panel did not give us any kind of look at what Leslie would look in the Batsuit. But with shooting on the series starting early in September it was only a matter of time before we finally got a look at the next Batwoman. You can check out the first image of Leslie wearing the Batsuit in her Instagram post below!

“Look out, Gotham, I’m suited up and ready to go… But just wait until Ryan Wilder puts her own spin on the Batsuit”, said Leslie in her post. By the looks of this image as well as some other leaked set images, she will start off with the suit that Kate Kane left behind or something close to it. During the DC FanDome presentation, executive producer Caroline Dries had stated that the suit would go through an evolution to fit Ryan Wilder’s character.

It is going to be exciting to see a new character go on this journey to become her own Bat character. The mystery of Kate’s disappearance is going to cause a lot of tension in the upcoming season. Many characters are going to have their own opinions and theories of what happened to her. It will also be interesting to see how the characters interact with this Batwoman differ from Kate’s.

With this upcoming season of Batwoman, I am also curious as to if this is going to affect the Bat-family in the comic books. Will there be a storyline where Kate Kane gets replaced by Ryan Wilder? Or are they just going to add another member to the ever-growing Bat-family? That will also be something to keep an eye on. What do you guys think of our first look at Leslie in the cowl and red hair? Let us know in the comment section below!

The CW’s Batwoman season 2 will premiere on The CW sometime in January 2021.
