Emotional Trailer For Amazon’s Sound Of Metal

In the spring of 2018, one of my closest friends dragged me to a metal show. This might sound silly but I had never been in an environment like that so I had no idea what to expect. Over two years later we have now been up and down California attending countless metal shows. There is nothing like vibing with the crowd and experiencing the energy from the bands. I mention this bit about me because of the upcoming Amazon Original Movie, Sound of Metal. You can check out the trailer above!

Sound of Metal first premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. The film stars The Night Of, Emmy winner Riz Ahmed, and Ready Player One‘s Olivia Cooke. The story is about a metal band drummer that after so many shows, is experiencing hearing loss. Now he must figure out a way to deal with the pressures of learning how to deal with his disability. While also resisting the urges to relapse back into drugs.

Sound of Metal

Here is the synopsis for Sound of Metal:
During a series of adrenaline-fueled one-night gigs, itinerant punk-metal drummer Ruben (Riz Ahmed) begins to experience intermittent hearing loss. When a specialist tells him his condition will rapidly worsen, he thinks his music career — and with it his life — is over. His bandmate and girlfriend Lou (Olivia Cooke) checks the recovering heroin addict into a secluded sober house for the deaf in hopes it will prevent a relapse and help him learn to adapt to his new situation. But after being welcomed into a community that accepts him just as he is, Ruben has to choose between his equilibrium and the drive to reclaim the life he once knew. Utilizing startling, innovative sound design techniques, director Darius Marder takes audiences inside Ruben’s experience to vividly recreate his journey into a rarely examined world.

Along with Ahmed and Cooke, the film also stars Paul Raci, Lauren Ridloff, Shaheem Sanchez, Chelsea Lee, Jeremy Stone, and Mathieu Amalric. It’s written by Abraham Marder and Darius Marder, who also serves as the film’s director.

It looks like a fantastic film that will give us a backstage pass into the world of what some of these musicians go through. What do you think of the trailer? Let us know in the comment section below!

The Amazon Original Movie Sound of Metal is coming to select theaters on November 20th. Then Prime Video on December 4th, in the US.
