New iMac Gets On The Retro Train, But The Old School Looks Come Packed With Powerful M1 Chip

Apple has introduced a redesigned iMac yesterday and it’s quite slim with 7 beautiful colors. I guess Apple is feeling nostalgic for the 90s. Apple states the new iMac is designed from the ground up for the M1 chip.

The New iMac!

Apple now has the ability to make their own chips so this iMac will have an Apple silicon chip. The new iMac has a 24-inch, 4.5k display. They have made the bezel more narrow and it’s 11.5 mm thin, reducing the volume by half. The rear of the display will now be flat, giving it a really sleek look. The chin will still be large. The iMac screen also has True Tone tech to adjust the color temperature automatically.

Diving a Little Deeper

The new model has two small fans and even though it’s so much thinner, Apple says it should stay cooler and quieter because of the M1 chip. The new iMac’s camera and microphone will receive updates too. You can now enjoy a 1080p resolution thanks to a larger sensor. This new model offers different I/O variations so check out Apple’s specs to see what’s the right fit for you. To match, or mix and match, Apple also made a mouse, keyboard, and trackpad in the same colors. The keyboard has a Touch ID button in the top corner to log in.

The price for the base model is $1,299 and it comes with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. Both RAM and storage are upgradeable. Some of the colors are reserved for the higher-end model at $1,499. You can start ordering the new iMac on April 30th and it will be available in late May so if you are dying to snag the new computer, you don’t have much longer to wait.
