Another one bites the dust. With the COVID-19 pandemic claiming the summer movie season and pushing back more productions than we can count, it was only a matter of time before it affected smaller films. Personally, my eyes were looking toward a little filmmaker named M. Night Shyamalan. While Glass wasn’t exactly the greatest movie ever, it failed in such a way that an M. Night Shyamalan film could.
So I was excited to see what his next projects would be. Last September, we learned that he had not one, but two films on the horizon. Given the financial success of his previous three movies, Universal had no problem giving him two slots — one for February 26, 2021 and the other for February 17, 2023. But with the pandemic hitting, you know that production would be affected by the first one.

Now, Universal is pushing back at least one of those films. Their action-thriller starring Bob Odenkirk Nobody has been pushed from its August 2020 slate and has pushed Shyamalan’s movie from its February 2021 slot. This means that Shyamalan’s latest fill need to find another place. Though while this may be a bit of a bummer for Shyamalan fans, it may be a bigger bummer in the long run.
He was already working with a pretty ambitious two-year window between his two new unconnected movies. Assuming production has been delayed, he’ll likely have, at most, 1.5 years between the release of that first film and the release of the second. That doesn’t give a lot of time to develop and write. Of course, he could always work on that story now during quarantine, but we don’t really know if he’s able to switch modes like that as a creative.
As such, I wouldn’t be surprised if we learned about his second film getting delayed as well.
