New RoboCop Sequel On The Way…But Not To The Film You’d Expect

There’s another RoboCop film on the way!

Yeah, not exactly the biggest news, but it gets a tad more interesting. If you hated the recent reboot film, then you’re in luck, as it’s not set to be a sequel to that film. Speaking with Zeitgeist, RoboCop screenwriter Ed Neumeier revealed his new RoboCop project:

“…It’s nice that people are still interested in RoboCop and they have me working on a new one at MGM right now so maybe we’ll get another one out of it. We’re not supposed to say too much. There’s been a bunch of other RoboCop movies and there was recently a remake and I would say this would be kind of going back to the old RoboCop we all love and starting there and going forward. So it’s a continuation really of the first movie. In my mind. So it’s a little bit more of the old school thing.”

So, kind of like how the upcoming Terminator film from James Cameron and Tim Miller is set to ignore everything past T2, this upcoming film is set to ignore anything beyond that original RoboCop film.

Of course, the big question here is if a RoboCop film is even worth revisiting, especially after recent reboot tanked. Well, one of the big issues with that recent movie is that it felt completely different with its predecessor. Should it actually feel a lot more like it’s original…well, maybe not…call me dumb, but I’m just not sure anything resembling that original will fly nowadays. That being said, I’m happy to be proven wrong, and am interested to see if this new project actually comes to fruition.
