There’s another RoboCop film on the way!

Yeah, not exactly the biggest news, but it gets a tad more interesting. If you hated the recent reboot film, then you’re in luck, as it’s not set to be a sequel to that film. Speaking with Zeitgeist, RoboCop screenwriter Ed Neumeier revealed his new RoboCop project:

“…It’s nice that people are still interested in RoboCop and they have me working on a new one at MGM right now so maybe we’ll get another one out of it. We’re not supposed to say too much. There’s been a bunch of other RoboCop movies and there was recently a remake and I would say this would be kind of going back to the old RoboCop we all love and starting there and going forward. So it’s a continuation really of the first movie. In my mind. So it’s a little bit more of the old school thing.”

So, kind of like how the upcoming Terminator film from James Cameron and Tim Miller is set to ignore everything past T2, this upcoming film is set to ignore anything beyond that original RoboCop film.

Of course, the big question here is if a RoboCop film is even worth revisiting, especially after recent reboot tanked. Well, one of the big issues with that recent movie is that it felt completely different with its predecessor. Should it actually feel a lot more like it’s original…well, maybe not…call me dumb, but I’m just not sure anything resembling that original will fly nowadays. That being said, I’m happy to be proven wrong, and am interested to see if this new project actually comes to fruition.

    sweet…that is good news

my only emotion right now, is the scientist from Robocop 2 who gets shot in the arm as he looks at the VHS tape of himself getting shot by the protoypes.
that’s the look of best intention

Yeah… at the risk of being ‘that guy’, Robocop came out in ‘87, not ‘93. In fact the ‘87 Robocop was set in 1991. So, fuck you?

Look at you with your fancy shmancy accuracy, your facts, your accurate checking of stuff… your…

      Goddammit. 🙁

C’mon LR get your shit together.

I wouldn’t buy this for a $1! One good Robocop and the rest sucked…just stop now!

Seriously. Not every movie needs to be made into a friggin franchise. Some movies should just be one and done.

Hey, I liked Robocop 2. Robocop 3 on the other hand…

Robocop v. Dredd. That’s what we need.

Wow this is great! Ironic how I just watched the 2014 reboot a few days ago and was like wtf did they do! Heres a list of things that have to be in the new Robocop film

    – Basil’s old Robocop theme throughout the film
    – Bring back Peter Weller as Robocop or bring him back as the old man at OCP
    – Have Rob bottin design a remix of the old Robocop suit (no black steath design! Silver and black please)
    – Have it Rated R
    – Have Paul Verhoeven as director!

“Robocop” could be great again, but it would take someone with serious balls and absolutely no regard for political correctness, anyone’s feelings and would generally be reviled by every poofy SJW in the cosmos, but it could be. It won’t. But, it could be. There is plenty of gas left in this idea for someone with the right amount of no-fucks-given to make a movie that would blow everyone’s mind. Especially seeing as how the world we live in today has basically gone so much further into absurdity than anyone in 1986 ever could have imagined.

But, it will just be a nutless exercise in name value cash grab instead.

Not really sure how this would work. I would have loved this instead of the reboot mess we got. Now we are just going to confuse a bunch of millennials.
Maybe have Cranston as a Boddicker type who is now running Detroit. Give us smart street thugs who are creating their own tech to battle OCP. Have OCP suffering a collapse, or perhaps a takeover from a foreign company, which then puts Detroit under the jurisdiction of a foreign company, which would cause citizens shit to hit the fan. But this new company actually pays the police handsomely, causing them to blindly follow directions.
Maybe throw in Patrick Stewart as the ex-Ceo of OCP, because we need old white guys in suits running the show. But then we can get someone like Oscar Isaacs to play the new foreign investor who has his own vision for Detroit. LIke the cost of running New Detroit bankrupt OCP and now they have to sell off to him.
