Sonic The Hedgehog Races Back To Comic Stands In April

It’s been almost 27 years since we first met Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog. He debuted in his first title Sonic The Hedgehog on June 23rd 1991. Since then, we have seen the speedster in many other video games, tv shows and comics as well. Recently the rights to the character has changed publishers from Archie Comics to IDW. For that reason, there has been a lack of Sonic titles for over a year now. But IDW is looking to change that.

In an exclusive with Entertainment Weekly, IDW announced their first ongoing Sonic title called Sonic the Hedgehog this April. To kick off the series IDW will be releasing 4 issues that month, one per week. The book will be written by Ian Flynn and the first issue will feature artwork by Tracy Yardley. The next three issues for that month will feature a different artist. The team will then rotate month to month. Check out some of the exclusive covers over at Entertainment Weekly. Each of the four issues will also feature Sonic’s allies starting off with Miles “Tails” Prower. This will lead up to the introduction of a new character to the Sonic canon.

If your a fan of the the Sonic franchise, then this may be for you, especially with the introduction of a new character. The idea of a rotating art team can be distracting, we’ll see how distinct their styles are. What do you think of this title? Is this something that would be worth your time reading? IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog #1 will hit comic stands April 4th, 2018.
