With less than 24 hours until Netflix premieres the second season of Marvel’s The Punisher, a new teaser has been shared on YouTube.
After extracting his revenge against those involved in the deaths of his family and being given a clean slate, Frank Castle is attempting to live the quiet life. However, one night at a bar seems to change whatever plans Castle had for himself, when he thwarts an assassination attempt on a young woman. Castle learns that she is being hunted down by an alt-right fundamentalist and his militia. A militia that seems to have acquired the assistance of Castle’s friend-turned-enemy Billy Russo, whose face is sporting the deep, jagged scars from his violent showdown with Castle in the finale of season one.

As one would expect from Marvel’s most vicious vigilante, this season is bound to be filled with some epic and gory action scenes. However, what makes The Punisher series compelling isn’t just the action, but how deep they go into the mental and emotional aspects of a character like Frank Castle. In season one, the conversation was not just about betrayal and vengeance, but also about PTSD, the treatment of veterans and how extreme, one-sided ideologies can distort a civilization. It seems season two will continue with that angle and this writer is in full support of it.
Marvel’s The Punisher season two premieres at midnight tonight on Netflix.
