“I’m the last person standing between them and what they really want.” Says Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the new trailer for the upcoming Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion trailer. The dark grim footage shows a very serious situation that Fury and his allies are going to have to deal with involving the hidden Skrulls.
The Secret Invasion trailer made its debut at this year’s Marvel Studios presentation at D23. You can check it out below! The series will debut exclusively on Disney+, sometime in 2023.
In the trailer for Secret Invasion trailer is the return of some Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. Like Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes, Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos, and Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill.
This storyline goes back to Captain Marvel in 2019 when we first met some of the players in this series. Now we get to see the crossover event series that showcases a faction of the shapeshifting Skrulls that have been infiltrating Earth for years.
The original Secret Invasion comic was published in 2008. This featured a large conspiracy involving Skrull double agents. They used their shape-shifting abilities to impersonate various heroes and villains. As they to attempt to lay the groundwork for the Skrull Empire to take over planet Earth. Like many of their other adaptations for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this will probably take a shorter path than the original storyline.
Secret Invasion is said to be six episodes and will be directed by Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim. Based on the timeline given at San Diego Comic-Con we can somewhat guesstimate that the series could potentially premiere sometime in the spring of 2023.
It will be interesting to see what other characters show up in the series as it is labeled as a crossover event. Who will be real, and who will be a double Skrull agent?
