An adaptation of Highfire: A Novel is in the works from Amazon and is based on the novel by Eoin Colfer. Nicolas Cage is set to eceutive produce ad voice the dragon (wyvern) who is the last of his kind. Once known by the prestigious title of Lord Highfire, he now goes by the name of Vern. He is roughly the size of a bear and keeps to himself on an island the swamps of Louisiana. He consumes a ridiculous amount of Absolut vodka, and has a healthy love or 80s cinema, with Flashdance noted as his favorite film.

Before writing this article I had never heard of the novel. However, by the description, it seems Cage may be a good fit, oddly enough. I find it sort of odd that an alcoholic dragon would be the focus of a children’s novel, then again I’m fairly certain Willy Wonka is responsible for the demise of at least 4 children. There are many other examples such as that. I will say I’m definitely going to have to tune in and give this series a few episodes to pull me in.

Nicolas Cage isn’t the first actor that comes to mind when thinking of who would be a good voice for a dragon. However, while he may be unfit to voice every other dragon, this particular one may just be perfect for him. I think Cage can pull this off, though not knowing much about Vernit’s hard for me imagine.
