Do you like scary movies? I do! I am a huge fan of the horror genre and all of the sub-genres that come with it. Over the last decade or so I have become a fan of the anthology horror films like The ABCs of Death. I think there is something very cool and unique in being able to tell a story in five to seven minutes and explore all of the elements and styles of horror in one sitting. That’s why I am excited about Nightmare Cinema which brings together Joe Dante (Gremlins), Mick Garris (The Stand), David Slade (30 Days of Night), Ryuhei Kitamura (Midnight Meat Train), and Alejandro Brugues (Juan of the Dead) to tell five scary stories that will be presented by Micky Rourke as the Projectionist.
In addition to this anthology, which hits June 21st, there will be a curated screening series that will allow filmmakers to showcase their movies and the work of their influencers. Three of the directors from Nightmare Cinema, Garris, Brugues, and Dante, will be screening films. This series will start on June 14th at the Hayworth Theater in Los Angeles and feature Sleepwalkers, Juan of the Dead, and Piranha. This series will be called The Evening of Nightmares and will continue for several months.
The official synopsis for Nightmare Cinema is:
In this twisted horror anthology, five strangers are drawn to an abandoned theater and forced to watch their deepest and darkest fears play out before them. Lurking in the shadows is the Projectionist, who preys upon their souls with his collection of disturbing films. As each reel spins its sinister tale, the characters find frightening parallels to their own lives.
