A few months back, Nintendo revealed Nintendo Labo, a new line of interactive content that is compatible with their latest system, the Nintendo Switch. It was a move that was very polarizing to gamers. Most hardcore gamers didn’t see anything for them, while there was a subset of tinkerers and people with kids who saw the potential for a different type of gaming experience — especially one that could help teach.
It was the latest in many moves over Nintendo’s history to innovate. Never content to stay the course and fall into the same rhythm as Sony and Microsoft (who focus more on standard, hardcore gaming), the Big N has always been big on trying new things, for better or worse. So would this be another Switch-like success or something more along the lines of the Wii U?

While it’s a bit too early to make any proclamations of that magnitude right now, it doesn’t look like things are off to an auspicious start for Nintendo Labo. According to a new report from Siliconera, the new concept is struggling to find an audience in Japan, with it only selling through 30 percent of its initial shipment in its first week.
Even worse, it’s not doing much to actual movie Switch units, which was likely what Nintendo was hoping for. In creating Nintendo Labo, they were likely targeting potential consumers who didn’t often game and had yet to actually purchase the system.
There is currently no word yet on how Nintendo Labo did in the U.S., but I can’t imagine it’s been doing too well, as there has been little buzz revolving around it since its release.
