Nintendo To Release Revolutionary Controller

Call me nostalgic, but I definitely have an allegiance to Nintendo when it comes to gaming consoles.  I still remember my mom and dad coming out of Children’s Palace with what seemed like a huge box only to see that it was in fact, the Nintendo Entertainment System.  Flash forward decades and Nintendo is still holding strong with the Switch being its most recent generation while also releasing the NES and SNES Classics.  Whether you prefer the console or not, you do have to admit that they have made some major changes to the world of controllers, such as the first to add the D-pad or the joystick to the home controller. Shigeru Miyamoto revealed in a recent board meeting that he is ready for a new controller revolution.

“And, as of now, in terms of accuracy and reliability, I believe this style is the clear winner. At the same time, I also believe that we should quickly graduate from the current controller, and we are attempting all kinds of things. Our objective is to achieve an interface that surpasses the current controller, where what the player does is directly reflected on the screen, and the user can clearly feel the result.”

“This has not been achieved yet. We have tried all kinds of motion controllers, but none seem to work for all people. As the company that knows the most about controllers, we have been striving to create a controller that can be used with ease, and that will become the standard for the next generation.”

Nintendo is always working on something, and it seems as if more effort into the controllers goes on behind the scenes.  Ko Shiota, who heads up Nintendo Hardware, explained that Nintendo produces numerous controller prototypes, but never releases anything unless they are positive that it will work the way they want it to with their software.  Regarding the new controller, he stated that the ultimate goal is… “an all-purpose controller that is unlike any of the current devices.”

So what exactly will that look like?  Nobody really knows, but it from the statement it seems as if it may be less “busy”, but definitely up to the current standards, and then some.  What are your thoughts?  What would you like to see in a new Nintendo controller?  Leave your thoughts in the usual spot, and thanks for reading!
