According to the latest Marvel Barside Buzz there will be no Eternals 2, Ant-Man 4 or Captain Marvel 3 coming anytime soon. The information comes from Daniel RPK on his Patreon and he says all of these sequels are seen as too risky to make.

If we start with Eternals 2. RPK says Kevin Feige does want to make this film but Bob Iger thinks it’s a sure fire flop given the first movie. According to the rumor Marvel are focusing on sequels that will be hits. This means any plans to make a third Captain Marvel movie or a fourth Ant-Man movie are also shelved.

I think this may be slightly unfair to Ant-Man. After all the first two Ant-Man movies were profitable because they were lower budget. Quantumania went big budget and didn’t get that kind of box office. Surely the answer with that sequel is to go back to basics? I’m not buying that Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man is not a popular MCU character.

Harder to argue against the other two. I like Captain Marvel as a character, I liked her in Endgame. However I haven’t been impressed with either Captain Marvel or The Marvels so far. Arguably The Marvels was more enjoyable than the first movie, but I still wasn’t impressed.

As for Eternals 2, it seems a shame that the set up in Eternals won’t really go anywhere. However, would fans rush out to see an Eternals 2, even if it had a lower budget? I’m not so sure. Does that mean we never find out what happened after the Earth Eternals went to space and found Thanos brother Starfox? Maybe, but I guess they could try to build that story in other, less risky ways than Eternals 2.

Finally one last rumor I will cover here without fanfare from RPK is that he says neither Maria or Monica Rambeau appear in Deadpool and Wolverine. There were never any real rumors that this was the case. However, some fans figured the post-credit scene of The Marvels was hinting at them being involved. RPK did say that he cannot rule out any post-credit scenes, just that they don’t appear in the movie itself.

So, no Eternals 2, Ant-Man 4 or Captain Marvel 3 anytime soon at Marvel is the rumor. What do you think of this latest Barside Buzz? Thoughts below as always.
