This is a shocker folks as X-Men 97′ showrunner Beau DeMayo is fired by Disney just weeks before the premiere on Disney+. As per THR, it seems that for unknown reasons Beau DeMayo and Disney parted company last week. The trade also says that DeMayo, despite having already written Season 2 of X-Men 97′ will not even promote the show going forward.
‘But early last week, Marvel and DeMayo suddenly parted ways. His company email was deactivated and cast and crew were informed he was no longer on the project. DeMayo’s Instagram account, once a source for X-Men updates, was deleted. No reason for the firing was given.’
‘Marvel had no comment. DeMayo’s representatives did not return calls for comment and emails to the showrunner yielded no response.’
Of course DeMayo has worked with Marvel Studios before this animated reboot. Moon Knight was a fairly successful show, and it gave DeMayo enough credit to get a shot at Blade and X-Men 97′. From what we hear on the Barside Buzz, Marvel were not fans of DeMayo’s take on Blade, and neither was star Mahershala Ali. Check out what Toast had to say below.
I’ve been told there were some problems with X-MEN ’97 behind the scenes and that DeMayo’s take on BLADE was NOT received well internally.
To be clear, this was NOT the reason for his firing. But rather, it was a mix of things. https://t.co/sho4k8AbEJ

Now let’s be clear that Toast is not claiming in any way that these reported issues are the catalyst for the sacking. I think most of you readers will realise that sacking DeMayo completely, the media blackout and fact he won’t even promote this new show is unusual. That’s not what happens when someone is removed for creative differences. Also remember that prior to this latest situation DeMayo was still promoting X-Men 97′ long after he had been replaced on Blade‘s script.
One could let their imagination run wild with this kind of story. I implore you to not do so as it’s best to wait for some more information from either camp. I just don’t think this is the usual creative differences, which happens all the time in Hollywood.
