No Origin Story Or Young Clark In Superman: Legacy Says James Gunn

According to a recent report Superman: Legacy is to film in March 2024, and we also have a new brief synopsis.

According to writer/director James Gunn, there will be no origin story or young Clark in Superman: Legacy. As you know, the first DCU reboot movie recently cast its Superman and Lois Lane in David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. Since then there are many rumors that the casting process for Lex Luthor, Jimmy Olsen and Miss Tessmacher is underway. However, Gunn himself as usual has been active on social media. Taking up residence, as many are within Blue Sky, a social media app alternative to Twitter, Gunn indicated there would be no origin story in the movie.

Links to Blue Sky don’t seem to integrate with the site currently like Twitter does. However, here is in an image I picked up from ComicBook‘s coverage for you to see.

According to writer/director James Gunn, there will be no origin story or young Clark in Superman: Legacy.

Okay, Gunn doesn’t outright say here that there will 100% be zero origin story. However, it certainly seems like he’s not keen on the idea. Add to this a recent comment made by Gunn to a fan on his Instagram account though, and it seems more likely. When asked by a young fan if they could try out for a young version of Clark (probably thinking of flashbacks like we had in previous movies) Gunn responded to the fan by saying this.

“There is no young Clark.”

So, there’s no young Clark and Gunn thinks we’eve seen enough of Kal El/Clark’s origin story. We also know Gunn plans to drop Superman into a world where superheroes already exist. Therefore, it seems likely there will be no origin story within the runtime of Superman: Legacy.

This is something we saw recently with Spider-Man: Homecoming, when Marvel decided to introduce Peter Parker in an ensemble movie then just move strait into his life following that event in his first solo outing. In other words, it’s been proved you don’t need to explain some characters origins at this point. Namely, Superman, Spider-Man and Batman, the biggest three characters in comic book land.

Given what we have heard about The Brave and the Bold, the first Batman DCU movie, I’m guessing it will be the same deal. The Brave and the Bold will see us with an already established Batman family. This is not early Batman like we are getting with Matt Reeves series. Ergo, It seems likely the origin story of Bruce will also not be present.

According to writer/director James Gunn, there will be no origin story or young Clark in Superman: Legacy. What do you think of this latest DCU news? As always, leave your takes below.
