Norman Reedus Debunks The Rumors Of A $20 Million Payday For The Walking Dead

With longtime stars Lauren Cohan and Andrew Lincoln leaving the show at some point during The Walking Dead’s upcoming ninth season, one of the other cast members is going to have to step up and carry the show. Not long ago rumors flew around the television news world that Norman Reedus, who plays Darryl Dixon on the show, was to be the cast member to make the leap. Reports of the actor being offered 20 million dollars for his new role in the show surfaced, Today, Reedus puts those rumors to bed in an interview with MTV.

“There was a bogus story, a contract money story that hit the press; that was a fake story. It wasn’t even true. I got heat saying, ‘You’re gonna be the new leader’ Like, no one’s ever mentioned the word ‘leader’ to me.”

Reedus’s Daryl Dixon is one of the more popular characters of the show, and has earned quite a large following. Fans even created the hashtag #ifhediesweriot, when speculation that the character may be killed by Negan after the Season 6 cliffhanger. The showrunners ultimately chose to let Darryl survive, and with the current state of the show that appears to be one of the better decisions they’ve made over the last few seasons.
