According to some new Barside Buzz, an Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is in development, but what does that actually mean? Let’s start with what we know as fact. Obi-Wan Kenobi was an adapted movie script and never planned to have a Season 2. Lucasfilm and Ewan McGregor have stated however, they would love to do a Season 2, If it’s possible and that they are exploring options.
Folks, that’s what you call ‘in development’. I’m kinda saying, I’m not sure anything has actually changed regarding this show.
The new rumor comes from Daniel RPK on his Patreon and says simply that he’s heard Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is in development. Does that mean something has shifted and the development has moved into a more active phase? Well, we don’t know?
Last I heard any rumblings, which admittedly could be out of date, we still were not that far along. The idea was being explored, could a story be put together that would be worthwhile and make sense? Now, perhaps Daniel is hearing an idea has been agreed and their exploring that idea more thoroughly? That’s not what he says though and that’s all I have to go on. Look no shade to Daniel here, he’s a quality insider with a good hit rate. Maybe this is what he got told exactly, maybe he’s not allowed to say anymore? I’m just explaining my thought process to you readers.
I guess therefore, I’m just saying to temper expectations for this, for now. I have no doubt Season 2 is in development. However, with Star Wars especially, that is still a long way from being greenlit. Unless, something has changed recently of course, but that’s not yet clear.

If we’re getting into personal opinions? I’m not sure a Season 2 is worth it, or worth the risk. Worth it, because Season 1 wasn’t very good and was far too expensive. Worth the risk, because every time they add more to this era of Obi-Wan, there’s more danger of corrupting the canon of the original Star Wars trilogy. There’s surely no way they could bring Vader back as the antagonist and have them share screen time. They had one chance to do that with a deft touch and blew it already.
There was a good story somewhere within Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, the script, visuals and overall direction just were not up to speed for me. A smaller scale personal series focused on Obi-Wan learning from Qui Gon whilst watching over Luke could work. However, it doesn’t sound very exciting, does it? I think that’s the problem Lucasfilm are facing with a Season 2.
So, yeah, no doubt Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is in development. However, I’m not sure the new rumor tells us whether that’s anything new? What do you think, should they keep developing Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2, or drop it before they make it any worse?
