According to the latest fantasy Barside Buzz, Olivia Williams has been cast as Queen Morgase in The Wheel of Time Season 3. It has not been confirmed Williams is definitely playing Morgase! Hence the Barside Buzz. However, it seems 100% Williams is in the show. The actress was spotted on set filming at the location we think will be used for Caemlyn. Williams was seen filming scenes with Shohreh Aghdashloo. Given that Aghdashloo is confirmed to be playing Elaida, we can be very confident in Morgase. Elaida begins her story as an advisor to Queen Morgase.

For show watchers only, Morgase is the Queen of Andor and lives in Caemlyn. Morgase’s daughter is Elyane, who became friends with Nynaeve and Egwene in Season 2. This information all comes from the folks over at WOTSeries. Here is what they had to say.

‘WotSeries has learned that actor Olivia Williams has joined season 3 of The Wheel of Time. According to multiple sources, Williams was spotted on the Caemlyn/Andor set alongside Shohreh Aghdashloo during filming that took place back in May of this year. Per our sources, Olivia Williams plays the role of the “Queen”. While we couldn’t confirm with absolute certainty that she will be portraying Queen Morgase Trakand, it is highly likely that she will assume this character.’

All I can really say is, cool, another great actress cast in the show. Morgase part does dwindle in later books, so I wonder if the character will follow the same path in the show or not. I always felt like in the books Morgase could have been killed off. Therefore, I do wonder whether that may be an option for the show rather than keep an actress of Williams quality around for a small part? Course, the other possibility is expanding Morgase’s role slightly. That is something that so far the show has done well with characters like Lanfear, Liandrin, Moiraine and Siuan.
