Quentin Tarantino is living the filmmaker’s dream. Not only does he have the opportunity to make whatever idea that pops into his pretty little head, but he has complete creative control — so much so that he has the opportunity to recut the damn thing even AFTER it’s screened for audiences. Tarantino’s latest, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, premiered last month at the Cannes Film Festival, and as we have previously reported, Tarantino has expressed his willingness to shorten or expand the film a little.

But will he? That’s the million-dollar question. Well, Tarantino has so much damn creative control that even the Sony film chief, Tom Rothman hasn’t a clue. “You’d have to ask the maestro yourself,” Rothman told THR when asked about the auteur’s plans for the film. With the filmmaker seemingly still on vacation, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Also interesting is that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘s budget clocked in at a solid $90 million, once rebates and tax credits were taken into consideration. I only say this because it’s absolutely insane the amount of leeway and creative control he’s getting. He’s certainly earned it given his filmography, but it’s still crazy to see it in practice, given the current film landscape.
