One Piece Japanese Voice Cast Joins Netflix Live-Action Adaptation | Anime Expo 2023

We are getting closer and closer to the premiere of the live-action adaptation of “One Piece”. The beloved manga and anime series will make its way to Netflix on August 31. We have seen the cast, some images, and a trailer that has many people excited.

This past weekend at Anime Expo 2023 in Los Angeles, we got some more great news that will connect fans of the anime with the live-action series. Go ahead and check it out the way people at the panel got the news with a video featuring the cast of the Netflix series.

That’s right! The original “One Piece” voice actors will be returning to the High Seas for the Japanese dub of the live-action adaptation.

As you can see in the video above, Iñaki Godoy, who plays Monkey D. Luffy in the Netflix series, had the opportunity to meet Mayumi Tanaka, the original anime voice of the same character. It was there that she announced that she would be back for the Japanese dub of the series. Tanaka also passed the torch or in this case straw hat, to Godoy. It was a precious moment for fans of the series.

“I’ve been voicing Luffy for more than 23 years now, and I think everyone has a little bit of Luffy in their heart. Iñaki, who performs Luffy in this live-action series, is so fun and joyful that he really makes a perfect Luffy,” Tanaka said to Netflix. “I’m very happy to be able to voice Luffy in this adaptation as well.”

Joining Tanaka will be the rest of the original “One Piece” Japanese voice actors, including Kazuya Nakai as Roronoa Zoro, Akemi Okamura as Nami, Kappei Yamaguchi as Usopp, and Hiroaki Hirata as Sanji.
